The hermit speaks the truth of the guest's lineage: Pratapbhanu, sun of valour, son of King Satyaketu. By the guru's grace all things are known, he says, though such knowledge is not always fit for speech.
He praises the king's natural goodness, faith, affection, and mastery of righteous policy. These qualities have awakened fatherly attachment, so the hidden sage will now tell his own story and grant whatever desire rests in Pratapbhanu's heart.
The sweet invitation fills the king with joy. He grasps Ekatanu's feet and makes humble entreaties. Darshan of this ocean of mercy has placed the four goals of life in his palm, yet since the great being is pleased, Pratapbhanu dares to ask for a boon beyond comparison.
When the false sage speaks his true name, Pratapbhanu takes deception for omniscience.

नाम तुम्हार प्रताप दिनेसा। सत्यकेतु तव पिता नरेसा।। गुर प्रसाद सब जानिअ राजा। कहिअ न आपन जानि अकाजा।। देखि तात तव सहज सुधाई। प्रीति प्रतीति नीति निपुनाई।। उपजि परि ममता मन मोरें। कहउँ कथा निज पूछे तोरें।। अब प्रसन्न मैं संसय नाहीं। मागु जो भूप भाव मन माहीं।। सुनि सुबचन भूपति हरषाना। गहि पद बिनय कीन्हि बिधि नाना।। कृपासिंधु मुनि दरसन तोरें। चारि पदारथ करतल मोरें।। प्रभुहि तथापि प्रसन्न बिलोकी। मागि अगम बर होउँ असोकी।।
Your name is Pratapabhanu, the sun of valour. Your father was King Satyaketu. By the Guru's grace, O king, all things are known. Yet some truths are not fit to be spoken aloud.
