With the soft dust of the Guru's feet upon his eyes, Tulsidas turns toward Ram's liberating story. Before beginning, he bows to learned guides who remove doubts, to noble souls who are mines of virtue, and to saints whose lives resemble the cotton plant. Their exterior may be plain and rough, but within it ripens a fibre white, useful, and willing to suffer so another may be clothed.
As the saints gather, the ground beneath them becomes Prayag. The Ganga of devotion to Ram flows through the assembly. The current of sacred action meets it, while the unseen river of Brahman knowledge moves beneath both. Tales of Hari and Hara braid the waters together. Faith rises on the bank like an ancient banyan whose roots hold firm through every season.
This pilgrimage travels wherever the saints travel. It opens in every land and on every day, asking no traveller for wealth or distance. One enters by reverence, listens, and discovers that the confluence has already begun to wash sorrow from the heart.
The saints rise to continue their journey, and Prayag rises with them.
Read the passage from the Manas

The dust of the Guru's feet is a soft, beautiful anjana. It is nectar for the eyes and the destroyer of every defect of sight. Having purified the eye of viveka, of clear discernment, with that sacred collyrium, I shall now narrate Ram's story, which sets the soul free from the world. First I bow at the feet of the Brahmins, whose wisdom removes all doubts born of delusion. I offer my loving salutation to the whole assembly of good souls, for they are a mine of every noble quality. The life of a saint is like the cotton plant. Outwardly it seems rough and unremarkable. But its fruit, when it opens, is soft, white, pure, and full of hidden virtue. So it is with those who walk the path of goodness: their worth reveals itself in time, quietly, without display.
