Friend, let us go swing on Rāghava's lovely swing. Crystal walls stand beautifully on every side, with charming jeweled gateways. Seeing the polished glass, the peacock-mind dances, as though before Love's exquisite snare. Festoon, canopy, banner, fly-whisk, standard, flowers, and fruit are fashioned there; their reflected images call the poet as witness and tell their originals, “I am greater than you.” (1) Straight, massive pillars rise like victory columns of Love. A sandalwood seat hangs from fanciful hooks, with a red roller; its golden rod is like the vermilion tilaka-line on Love's brow, and its platform like a jeweled pendant and delicate silver necklace upon Rati's heart. (2) Dense dark clouds have gathered and pleasant Śrāvaṇa begins with gentle rain. Rows of cranes, the rainbow, and flashing lightning adorn the green earth. Frogs rejoice, rivers and lakes are full, and the land seems to surge with love, while cuckoos, peacocks, bees, cakoras, and cātakas resound through groves and gardens. (3) Seeing that lovely season, beautiful women—the limit of virtue, beauty, and youth—adorn themselves anew and come in throngs. Beholding the swing pavilion and the blissful company of Rāma and Sītā, each spreads her garment and begins to bless them. (4) They swing and take turns pushing one another, singing in Sūho and Gauḍa Malāra. The sound of small cymbals, anklets, and bracelets is like the rhythm in Love's hands. Sweat pours over their faces, curls scatter, and necklaces tangle—as though darkness, lightning, stars, the rising sun, and the moon wander through the sky. (5) Heavenly women watch with joyful hearts, shower flowers, and break straws to ward off the evil eye. Tears of bliss fill their eyes, their minds rejoice, and their bodies overflow with horripilation. All say, “May this abundant realm of welfare and blessing remain forever unshaken. Long live Jānakīnātha, the life-giving embodiment of Tulsī.” (6)
