Look upon Rāma, crown of sovereigns, stealer of great sages' minds, worthy refuge, giver of happiness, and Lord of Raghu's line. He delights the eyes of the worlds, dark as sapphire and tamāla, abode of beauty and virtue; beside the splendor of his limbs, what is the Love-god? (1) A lovely jeweled crown of refined gold blazes on his head, and beneath it the supreme beauty of his curling hair is no small thing. It is as though a swarm of bees, enamored of a lotus grove, has pleased the sun with the melodic phrases of its humming song. (2) His vast eyes are petals of red lotus; brows and tilaka adorn his forehead, and a supremely beautiful pair of earrings ornaments his ears. It is as though Śiva slew Love, found the twin makaras of his banner lovely, and gave them to the moon-face, where they shine on either side. (3) His nose, cheeks, chin, and red lips are lovely and his speech is sweet. When he turns his face to look, his teeth appear like exquisite ruby peaks fashioned by the Creator inside a lotus bud after dipping them in lightning's color. (4) Hear the image of his conch-like neck and broad breast, where bees, overcome by the fine fragrance, hum around a fresh tulasī garland. It is as though beside the Yamunā plunging from a dark-blue mountain, masses of clouds rumble and pour down sweet beauty. (5) His perfectly pure yellow garment is like lightning that a dark cloud, after much entreaty, retained for its own adornment. This formless Brahman manifest in embodied form is the highest fruit of the eyes: stop blinking, behold him, and count your life fulfilled. (6) The Abode of Compassion shines with beautiful Sītā, gives happiness to his servants, and steals the heart with a glance. Veda and Śeṣa grow weary describing this boundless form; Tulsīdāsa says even Śāradā is bewildered when she beholds its beauty. (7)
