“Nothing has come of me. A brother like Lakṣmaṇa has fulfilled brotherhood beautifully to its very end and departed. (1) He abandoned city, father, mother, and every happiness to share my forest hardships; yet I could not cast off grief and send my own life with him to the gods’ realm. (2) I now know that the thunderbolt obtained its hardness from this heart of mine, for even when I remember the son of Sumitrā’s love, no crack opens in it. (3) My father died, my wife was abducted, the vulture was slain, and now I have lost my right arm. Tulsī says: in every way I have brought disgrace upon my lineage.” (4)
