“Listen, villain, I have explained much to you. Fool, deluded into such pride, you knowingly seek to drink poison. (1) You know the world-renowned strength of mighty Vāli—or have you now forgotten? Rāma killed even him effortlessly with one arrow and revealed his love for the one who had sought refuge. (2) You will receive the fruit born of your own acts; in a fine place indeed have you stubbornly increased this enmity. When monkeys and bears seize, buffet, and beat you, regret will come. (3) I alone am capable of breaking your teeth; what can I do, since I have not received the command? Soon you will lie splendidly upon the battlefield, your heart torn open by Raghubīra’s arrows. (4) Your entire unshakable kingdom will belong to Vibhīṣaṇa, who fixed his mind upon Raghunātha’s feet.” Tulsīdāsa says that speaking thus, Vāli’s princely son departed with a roar. (5)
