सत्य कहौं मेरो सहज सुभाउ। सुनहु सखा कपिपति लंकापति, तुम्हसन कौन दुराउ॥ १ ॥ सब बिधि हीन-दीन, अति जड़मति जाको कतहुँ न ठाउँ। आयो सरन भजौं, न तजौं तिहि, यह जानत रिषिराउ॥ २ ॥ जिन्हके हौं हित सब प्रकार चित, नाहिन और उपाउ। तिन्हहिं लागि धरि देह करौं सब, डरौं न सुजस नसाउ॥ ३ ॥ पुनि पुनि भुजा उठाइ कहत हौं, सकल सभा पतिआउ। नहि कोऊ प्रिय मोहि दास सम, कपट-प्रीति बहि जाउ॥ ४ ॥ सुनि रघुपतिके बचन बिभीषन प्रेम-मगन, मन चाउ। तुलसिदास तजि आस-त्रास सब ऐसे प्रभु कहँ गाउ॥ ५ ॥
“I shall truthfully tell you my innate nature. Hear me, friend—lord of the monkeys and lord of Laṅkā—for what could I conceal from you? (1) If one bereft in every way, lowly, extremely dull-witted, and without shelter anywhere comes for refuge, I serve him and never abandon him; the chiefs of sages know this. (2) For those whose minds hold me as their sole well-wisher and who see no other means, I assume a body and accomplish everything, without fear that my fair fame might be lost. (3) Again and again I raise my arm and declare it—let the whole assembly trust me: no one is dearer to me than my servant, provided deceit leaves his love. (4) Hearing Raghupati’s words, Vibhīṣaṇa was immersed in love and his heart swelled with longing. Tulsīdāsa says: abandon every hope and fear, and sing to such a Lord. (5)
