Raghupati, behold—Hanumān has returned! He played the spring festival in the lord of Laṅkā’s city. (1) For Śrī Rāma’s work he chose the auspicious day, instructed his companions, and crossed the ocean. (2) He worshiped Sītā’s feet and received her blessing, then ate his fill of fruits sweet as nectar. (3) He crushed the grove and arranged the Holī revel, insistently having his tail wrapped in oil and cloth. (4) People followed him as though beating drums, and by force he set fire on every side. (5) He offered demons like new grain into the sacrificial blaze; seeing the flames leap up, the celestial chariots fled in alarm. (6) The sky held a spectacle while Laṅkā wailed: in the end, sinners are consumed by their own sins. (7) Hearing Hanumān’s roar, the gods rained flowers and again and again praised his tail. (8) The smoke of welfare filled every world; he burned the city and plunged his tail into the ocean. (9) He comforted Jānakī and magnified Rāma’s prowess. Victory to the Son of the Wind, crusher of the enemy’s pride! (10) The monkeys danced and leapt in play, drinking honey in Madhuvana, absorbed in joy. (11) While Lakṣmaṇa spoke thus, Hanumān came and clasped Rāma’s feet; delighted, the Lord raised and embraced him together with the crest-jewel. (12) The army began to assemble and every heart exulted. Crying “Victory! Victory!” Tulsīdāsa sings Hanumān’s glory. (13)
