Tell me, monkey: when will Raghunātha mercifully remove the pain born of separation from him—the lotus-eyed one, beauty of countless Loves, moon-faced giver of delight to the water lilies of the solar race? (1) The fire of separation, fanned by the wind of my breaths, has left no power in this body to burn further. Yet my two eyes pour water with tremendous force, fixed upon a single point day and night. (2) Listen, son: relying on firm understanding, I keep my life from being consumed. Inwardly I continually remember the joy of his manifest form, divine play, and loving sport. (3) Listen, Hanumān: the friend of all is compassionate by nature, exceedingly tender and cool. Knowing in my heart that this would distress him, Tulsīdāsa’s Sītā says, I would rather endure the pain than speak it openly. (4)
