Not one purpose has succeeded in my hands. My body has passed away in vain, like a wish-fulfilling vine burned by wildfire in the forest without serving anyone. (1) I did not uphold my love for Daśaratha, though the whole world witnessed it; when the lord of demons carried Jānakī away by force, I could not stubbornly hold her back. (2) At the hour of death I have not seen Raghubīra dressed as an ascetic, and these wretched breaths wish to depart before telling the Lord news of Sītā. (3) Again and again the king of vultures wrings his hands and beats his head in remorse. At that very moment, says Tulsīdāsa, the two compassionate brothers arrive. (4)
