When all the gods told him what had happened to Sītā, he heard and became alert. Weary from swimming the river of separation, he seemed at last to find a foothold. (1) The two steadfast and heroic brothers, foremost among bowmen, fastened quivers and arrows. Bowing to Pañcavaṭī and the Godāvarī, they circumambulated the cottage. (2) They set out questioning the forest’s vines and trees, its birds and beasts, and its lovely swarms of bees. The poet’s heart had no courage to describe the Lord’s condition at that moment. (3) Hearing the repeated name and recognizing the vulture, compassionate Raghurāya turned back. Tulsīdāsa says that, remembering Jaṭāyu’s bond of affection, Rāma for the moment even forgot his beloved. (4)
