फिरत न बारहि बार प्रचार्यो। चपरि चोंच-चंगुल हय हति, रथ खंड खंड करि डार्यो॥ १ ॥ बिरथ-बिकल कियो, छीन लीन्हि सिय, घन घायनि अकुलान्यो। तब असि काढ़ि, काटि पर, पाँवर लै प्रभु-प्रिया परान्यो॥ २ ॥ रामकाज खगराज आजु लर्यो, जियत न जानकि त्यागी। तुलसिदास सुर-सिद्ध सराहत, धन्य बिहँग बड़भागी॥ ३ ॥
He rebuked Rāvaṇa again and again, but the demon would not turn back. Swiftly striking the horses with beak and talons, Jaṭāyu smashed the chariot to pieces. (1) He left Rāvaṇa chariotless and distraught and wrested Sītā from him. Maddened by his many wounds, the wretch then drew his sword, cut off the bird’s wings, seized the Lord’s beloved, and fled. (2) Today the king of birds fought for Rāma’s cause and would not surrender Jānakī while life remained. Tulsīdāsa says the gods and perfected beings praise him: blessed indeed is that most fortunate bird. (3)
