राघौ! एक बार फिरि आवौ। ए बर बाजि बिलोकि आपने, बहुरो बनहि सिधावौ॥ १ ॥ जे पय प्याइ, पोखि कर-पंकज, बार-बार चुचुकारे। क्यों जीवहिं, मेरे राम लाड़िले! ते अब निपट बिसारे॥ २ ॥ भरत सौगुनी सार करत हैं, अति प्रिय जानि तिहारे। तदपि दिनहिं दिन होत झाँवरे, मनहुँ कमल हिम-मारे॥ ३ ॥ सुनहु पथिक! जो राम मिलहिं बन, कहियो मातु-सँदेसो। तुलसी मोहि और सबहिनतें इनको बड़ो अंदेसो॥ ४ ॥
Rāghava, return once more. Look upon these excellent horses of yours, and then depart for the forest again. (1) You fed them milk, nourished them with your lotus hands, and caressed them again and again. My darling Rāma, how can those whom you have now utterly forgotten continue to live? (2) Bharata tends them a hundredfold, knowing them to be very dear to you; even so, they grow more withered each day, like lotuses struck by frost. (3) Listen, traveler: if you meet Rāma in the forest, give him his mother’s message. Tulsī says that, more than everyone else, I fear for these horses. (4)
