Tell me—what is mine in Ayodhyā? The people cling to me, saying, ‘Forsake the feet of Raghurāja and rule the kingdom.’ (1) Blessed is my mother, and blessed am I, for whose sake the whole royal order has fallen! Even then you wish to make me lord, so that all may burn without a fire. (2) By Rāma’s oath, let no one say anything more. I have endured unbearable sorrow. Let us all go together to Citrakūṭa; I implore you—please forgive me. (3) Speaking thus at dawn, Bharata asked the way to the mountain and took that road. Everyone praised him: Bharata alone had gained the true profit of being born into the world. (4) Sītā and Raghunātha know the greatness of Bharata’s character and love—or, says Tulsī, one whose love and sacred observance are bound to Rāma’s name. (5)
