Why should I lay blame upon Kaikeyī? Be patient, dear son—I would give myself for you. Fate has turned perverse toward me today. (1) My beloved, I was not fit even to hear of separation from Rāma, yet before my very eyes Raghupati departed for the forest. (2) Tulsīdāsa says that, consoling Bharata in this way, she wiped his tears and drew him to her breast. Knowing his love for the Lord, such affection arose in her as though Rāma himself had returned.
