A broad, smooth crystal slab stands amid wish-fulfilling trees and tamālas; Graceful lattices of vines outshine the beauty of a canopy. On the bank of the Mandākinī are lovely throngs of deer and birds, And the deep, steady voices of sages singing the Sāman chants. (1) Bees, cuckoos, and peacocks call while lovely mountain waterfalls cascade; Droplets and dense shade keep even a moment of sunlight from appearing. The lord of seasons exerts his influence in every season, and the threefold breeze blows without cease— It seems to be the pleasure garden of the five-arrowed king, Kāma. (2) There Lakṣmaṇa built an extraordinary cottage of leaves, Where compassionate Rāma and Jānakī dwell continually. The lotus-eyed Lord makes their bed of tender leaves with his own hands, While each thirsts to drink the other’s nectar of love. (3) He paints Sītā’s limbs with mineral colors and arrays ornaments of flowers— What can be said of the tilaka fashioned by this treasury of art? Tulsīdāsa sings of their sweetness, play, and laughter; May this couple, dearer than life itself, dwell within the heart. (4)
