The travelers go on foot, though their feet are like lotuses; The road is hard and filled with masses of kuśa grass and thorns. (1) Friend, though hungry and thirsty, they walk on with eager hearts. By the strength of their merit, the gods and Śaṅkara are their helpers. (2) Their lovely bodies seem to embody form, splendor, and love; Or perhaps Brahman, the individual soul, and Māyā have assumed the dress of sages. (3) They are heroic, mighty, steadfast, and foremost among bowmen; Friend, they are Hari of exalted fame, guardian of the fourteen worlds. (4) The people along the road look on and cry, ‘Alas! Alas!’ Fate has made this forest exile terribly adverse for them. (5) Blessed are those whose lives, like fish, subsist in the water of the appointed term until their return. Tulsī says blessed too are all whose hearts are well disposed toward the Lord. (6)
