सानुज भरत भवन उठि धाए। पितु-समीप सब समाचार सुनि, मुदित मातु पहँ आए॥ १ ॥ सजल नयन, तनु पुलक, अधर फरकत लखि प्रीति सुहाई। कौसल्या लिये लाइ हृदय, ‘बलि कहौ, कछु है सुधि पाई?’॥ २ ॥ सतानंद उपरोहित अपने तिरहुति-नाथ पठाए। खेम कुसल रघुबीर-लषनकी ललित पत्रिका ल्याए॥ ३ ॥ दलि ताड़ुका, मारि निसिचर, मख राखि, बिप्र-तिय तारी। दै बिद्या लै गये जनकपुर, हैं गुरु-संग सुखारी॥ ४ ॥ करि पिनाक-पन, सुता-स्वयंबर सजि, नृप-कटक बटोर्यो। राजसभा रघुबर मुनाल ज्यों संभु-सरासन तोर्यो॥ ५ ॥ यों कहि सिथिल-सनेह बंधु दोउ, अंब अंक भरि लीन्हें। बार-बार मुख चूमि, चारु मनि-बसन निछावरि कीन्हें॥ ६ ॥ सुनत सुहावनि चाह अवध घर घर आनंद बधाई। तुलसिदास रनिवास रहस-बस, सखी सुमंगल गाई॥ ७ ॥
Bharata rose and hurried to the palace with his younger brother. After hearing all the news beside his father, he joyfully came to his mother. (1) Seeing his wet eyes, thrilled body, quivering lips, and lovely affection, Kauśalyā clasped him to her heart: ‘Dear child, tell me—have you received any news?’ (2) ‘The lord of Tirhut has sent his own priest Śatānanda. He has brought a graceful letter reporting Raghubīra and Lakṣmaṇa safe and well. (3) They subdued Tāḍakā, slew the night-roamers, protected the sacrifice, and delivered the Brahmin's wife. After teaching them, the sage took them to Janakapur, where they are happy with their guru. (4) Janaka made the lifting of Pināka his vow, arranged his daughter's self-choice, and gathered armies of kings. In that royal court Raghubara broke Śambhu's bow as though it were a lotus stalk.’ (5) Having spoken thus, both brothers went limp with love, and their mother gathered them into her lap. Again and again she kissed their faces and waved lovely gems and garments over them as offerings. (6) Hearing this charming, longed-for news, joyful congratulations sounded through every home in Ayodhyā. Tulsīdāsa says the women of the inner palace, overcome with delight, sang auspicious songs.
