जबतें राम-लषन चितए, री। रहे इकटक नर-नारि जनकपुर, लागत पलक कलप बितए, री॥ १ ॥ प्रेम-बिबस माँगत महेस सों, देखत ही रहिये नित ए, री। कै ए सदा बसहु इन्ह नयनन्हि, कै ए नयन जाहु जित ए, री॥ २ ॥ कोउ समुझाइ कहै किन भूपहि, बड़े भाग आए इत ए, री। कुलिस-कठोर कहाँ संकर-धनु, मृदुमूरति किसोर कित ए, री॥ ३ ॥ बिरचत इन्हहिं बिरेचि भुवन सब सुंदरता खोजत रित ए, री। तुलसिदास ते धन्य जनम जन, मन-क्रम-बच जिन्हके हित ए, री॥ ४ ॥
Friend, ever since they beheld Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, the men and women of Janakpur have remained fixed in their gaze; a blink seems to take an aeon. (1) Overcome by love, they ask Maheśa only that they may keep seeing these two forever: ‘Either let them always dwell within these eyes, or let these eyes go wherever they go.’ (2) ‘Why does no one advise the king? They have come here through immense good fortune. How far apart are Śaṅkara's thunderbolt-hard bow and these tender youthful forms!’ (3) While fashioning them, Brahmā searched for beauty and emptied all the worlds. Tulsīdāsa says blessed are the births of those to whom they are dear in mind, deed, and speech. (4)
