At dawn they went into the flower garden to gather flowers. Caps were upon their heads, sacred threads upon them, and yellow cloth at their waists; leaf-cups in their left hands made the charming pair lovelier still. (1) Abodes of beauty, royal princes, tender youths, they are their guru's very life and attend him in service. They wait upon him like lowly servants and follow his slightest inclination; the two brothers have brought even irascible Kauśika under their sway. (2) At that same moment, by Fate's conjunction, Jānakī arrived with her friends to worship noble Girijā. Seeing Lakṣmaṇa and Rāma, she took them for Spring and Love; struck with wonder, it was as though Love had cast an enchantment upon her head. (3) The joy when Rāghava's and Śrī Jānakī's eyes met is not fit for telling; I have merely fashioned a few words. The Lord, Sītā, her friends, Lakṣmaṇa, and Tulsī— each one's mind became what accorded with that one's relationship. (4)
