Translation of page 39

in the age of the White Boar, in the Manvantara of Vaivasvata, in the twenty-eighth Kali Yuga, in the first quarter of Kali; upon Jambudvipa, in Bharatavarsha, in the land of Bharata, within a region of Aryavarta; in such-and-such country, at such-and-such sacred place; in the Vikrama year numbered such-and-such, in the year bearing such-and-such name, in such-and-such solstice, season, month, fortnight, lunar date, weekday, and constellation—for the unobstructed and complete celebration of the festival of Sri Sita and Rama's wedding, I shall perform the worship of Ganesha and Ambika, the worship of the sixteen Mothers, and the ancestral rite.

Worship of the Mothers — Pada 34

The skillful priest Shatananda recites the mantras. Queen Sunaina worships the Mothers in supreme happiness. She has cow dung brought from the cowherds' quarter and the ritual square prepared. First she worships Lord Ganesha and establishes the sacred vessel. The queen worships the five deities and propitiates the protectress. She worships her own lineage-goddess and entreats her again and again. The gathered women sing blessings and awaken love. Snehalata, too, sings of this worship for all to hear.

Ghurchhak — Pada 35

Carrying the vessel for ghurchhak, the sweet-natured married women set out in charming fashion, adorned with all sixteen embellishments. Yellow saris clothe their golden bodies; their parted hair gleams with a rich red line of vermilion. They step in rhythm with the auspicious instruments; their melody and song are beyond compare. Offering blessings and surging with joy, they come to behold the chief of Raghu's line.
