Instruments of many kinds resound; sky and city are filled with auspiciousness. Sachi, Sarada, Rama, and Bhavani— the pure and innately wise women of the gods—
assume the excellent guise of mortal women and mingle with the ladies of the royal household. They sing beautiful, auspicious words; all are so overcome with joy that no one recognizes them.
Chhand
Who could know which woman, borne along by bliss, has come to perform parichhan for the Supreme Brahman? Sweet songs and melodious drums resound; gods shower flowers, and the sight is glorious. Beholding the bridegroom, the very root of bliss, every heart is filled with joy; lotus eyes overflow with love, and rows of thrilled hairs cover every body.
Doha
The happiness that arose in Sita’s mother’s heart when she saw Rama dressed as a bridegroom— not even countless Saraswatis and Sheshas could describe it in a hundred aeons.
Knowing the hour to be auspicious, the queen restrains the tears in her eyes and performs the parichhan with a joyful heart.
Pada 26
Mother, all four handsome bridegrooms are the sons of King Dasharatha! They have brought four perfect matches for us—may Sri Gauri and Shankar protect them.
Crimson turbans grace their heads, studded with sparkling diamonds; saffron marks shine high upon their brows. Their extraordinary eyes, lined with kohl and finely traced, fill every beholder with delight.
Jeweled earrings curve back against their cheeks, and the pendant ornaments work their wonder. However deeply one drinks in the sight, one is never satisfied; smiling, they veil their faces with handkerchiefs.
Fragrant aloe spreads over their limbs; beauty reigns from head to foot; jeweled garlands encircle their necks. Preserve King Videha’s honor— may these bridegrooms remain in Mithila forever!
