Pada 1

Homage to the lotus-feet of Sri Agrasvami.

His beloved words delight the rasikas’ hearts, awaken understanding, and brim with the lovely rasa of the rasa dance.

Foremost among rasikas, he upholds their doctrine, dispelling the whole tangle of doubt about grace and worldly attachment.

Homage—victory, victory! In the joyous grove, the Lover abides secretly in a bower with his Beloved.

Homage—victory to the name of Janaki’s Beloved, which hums through the garland of the rasikas’ tongues.

The ways of love, fidelity, and trust, and the feet of the Darling— says Yugalapriya—consume the darkness within the heart.

The Glory of Sri Mithila — Pada 2

Tirhut is supremely beloved and holy, for there Sri Sita, daughter of Videha, was born in exquisite beauty.

Through her, Raghunandan—the sun that opens the lotus of Raghu’s line—was sanctified; there dwelt Yajnavalkya, Gautama, Kanada, Kaushika, Kapila, and other eminent sages;

Ashtavakra, Vyasa’s son Shuka, and other sages of supreme knowledge and pure bearing came to King Videha and received the unwavering essence of wisdom.

There were the illustrious Bodhayana, Udayana, Vachaspati, and Gangesha; Shankara, Mandana, Gokul Dvija, the poet, and kings like Shivasimha.

And the lovely bee Vidyapati forever hums there with poetry.

The Construction of the Wedding Pavilion

He sent for many gifted artisans, masters skilled in the craft of canopies.

Bowing to Brahma, they began their work and fashioned pillars like golden plantain trunks.

Doha: Their leaves were green jewels, their fruit and flowers rubies; beholding that wondrous design, even Brahma’s mind was bewildered.
