Pada 257

“Raghava, your eyes commit cruel tyranny! Fickle, proud, and drunk on the arrows of Love, they fight wherever they go. Wishing to drink the nectar of beauty, they make even the moon plead before them. Ashamed by those eyes, the fish, lotus, and khajana bird retreat to dwell in water and forest. Roaming here and there, they fight, and when they return face to face they never accept defeat. Rasamala says: stealing everyone’s heart, they fear no one at all.”

Pada 258

“Dark one, you have shot the arrow that steals all peace— how shall I keep myself alive? Spellbound by the lotus-eyed one’s gaze, I have lost all awareness of body and mind. My whole body trembles, and sweat pours forth within my heart; friend, how can I remain alive?

“Merciless one, you have planted pain within my heart and wounded me, yet you do not care. Navala Vihari Priya pleads: bring me Dasharatha’s son, Siya’s beloved, and save my life!”

Pada 259

“Dark, handsome, heart-enchanting beloved, come and embrace me! My thirsty eyes have been parted from you for ages; let them drink your immortal nectar. My life writhes and my heart pounds— pour out the nectar of your rasa. O rasika immersed in rasa, every limb of mine has grown faint; do not delay. Navala Ali, tormented by separation, begs in many ways: do not forsake me and deprive me of this rasa.”

Pada 260

My eyes have become bound to that handsome darling. His dark curling hair, his forest-sweet words, and those lips drinking nectar— my gaze has frozen upon them.
