Translation of page 141

All concern for worldly shame and decorum has escaped by the path of my eyes. Night and day, silently delighted, my mind wanders through the lanes of Janaka’s city.

Pada 223

The wondrous bridegroom has completely stolen my heart.

His broad, luminous brow, lovely crown, lotus-eyes darkened with kohl, and shining tilak spread radiance everywhere.

Saffron, floral ornaments, peacock plume, jewels, and curling tassels adorn his sehra; their splendor humbles even the pride of Love.

His curling locks are exceedingly lovely, like bees dwelling upon a bank of clouds; he is steeped in the nectar cherished by rasikas.

Beautiful ornaments and garments adorn his graceful body; a pearl necklace shines, and the mark of Bhrigu’s foot appears upon his chest.

His glance naturally steals the hearts of sages; his gentle smile has stolen my very jewel—as though he had worked some spell.

The instant I saw his beauty, my mind was caught; my heart became steeped in the nectar of love, and I gave him body, mind, and wealth.

Rama Kumara has taken residence in my heart, friend, and immense waves of love keep rising. Says Mauna Mudita: shame and public judgment have been cast away like straw; I have won the treasure of bliss.

The Prince of Awadh is a most beloved bridegroom.

A jewel-studded crown shines upon him, scattering a hundred million rays like the sun; his sehra sways gently.

A broad saffron mark gleams upon his forehead, and dark curls hang down like a swarm of bees. His formidable brows and singular lotus-eyes shine, deeply lined with kohl.

The sweetness of Manamohana’s smile and his heart-stealing glance have filled my soul. A forest garland shines upon his breast,
