Pada 145

“Bridegroom, where else could you find in-laws like these? Do not leave Mithila; remain in the kohbar all twelve months.

Every sister and sister-in-law will stay in your service, fulfilling every longing of your heart.

Whatever you ask for, we shall provide; never, O Lord, will you be disappointed.

We shall choose flowers one by one and spread your bed, and there you may enjoy the play of love.

You shall pass your days happily among us all.” Says Rupalata: abandon every worldly expectation.

Pada 146

“Let a fresh wedding be celebrated every day—guest, remain here! Remain in Mithila, guest; where else would you go?

If you depart for Awadh, where will you find your sisters and sisters-in-law? Who there will greet you with sweets and delicacies—and who will feed you without ritual abuse?

You have grown accustomed to all this; how will you give it up? How will the bond tied with your beloved be broken?

If you carry your sisters and sisters-in-law away to Awadh, will Awadh remain Awadh—or become Mithila itself?”

Pada 147

“Why not remain, O royal bridegroom, in Janaka’s city? With a gentle smile, Hari has poured the nectar of love into my heart.

O rasika lover, your heart-stealing glance has struck the arrow of your eyes.

In the midst of this city I shall establish Sajanpur, close beside the quarters of Videha.

Facing the palace of the young maiden, I shall build a pure and lovely golden mansion.

Its moonlit courtyard will be spotless, with flower-gardens, splendid trees, and fragrant pathways.
