Your Belief in Maya Is Maya

Our Trying to Possess It Is Our Suffering Now…you cannot possess that which you always have and it is in our trying to possess it, [in] which we are suffering. Now, just yesterday I was reading, a beautiful line (I read) that ‘At the centre of this human existence seems to be this need to know and possess’. Actually [it is the] same thing, our idea of knowing is to possess an experience or a concept. It is all about possessing, getting, getting, getting. Forget it. Now… the mind has a few tricks up its sleeve even then, it will say ‘I am just going to forget about spirituality then I will actually get it.’ [Smiles] It is like that whole idea of that ‘trying to kill the ego, while loving the ego.’ In our hearts we want to kill it, because ‘You [mind] are the tormentor, oh, I know that if I try to kill you, you will become stronger. So I will try to love you, so you will die.’ So intention is still to be rid of it and you cannot fool life in this way. So if it feels like it is a strategy - ‘to get it is to forget it; I am going to let go so that then I can get it’ - it is Hll the holding on. Just forget about it, with no outcome, no conclusion, with nothing happened, nothing has to happen. And the checker guy which is telling you ‘Good, good, bad, bad, yes, yes, no, no. [Smiles] you are doing very well. Oh, you should listen more carefully’ all of these is nonsense! Forget it. Don’t try to be the Self that lives up to standard of your mind. Don’t try to be or find the Self that lives up to some standard from the mind. If you just heard this much, all the struggle from the spiritual search is gone. [Silence] What you find is It. It does not have to live up to any expectation from your mind. And it has no obligation for you to understand It conceptually. In fact we are never going to.
