When We Ask Who
Ananta guides seekers to turn attention inward and discover the silent witness behind the question 'Who am I?'
The ‘who’ question, when it is not intellectualized, automatically guides us to a simple-looking; “Who am I?” And if we allow ourselves to let go of every concept, every mental answer, everything that we think we know, then the intuitive insight is so simple and apparent. So, this, what I call sometimes a voyage out of time and space, out of this universe is so simple. In fact, more difficult is to take yourself to be an object in time and space. More effortful is that. Organically you are the Reality, inherently you are this Self. Complicated is the mind, complicated is the ego. Super simple is the Self. Simpler than sitting where you are sitting. I don't want you to hear these words also intellectually “Okay, yes, yes, very nice. It is simpler than just sitting down”. Check - What is simpler than just sitting? What is simpler than just sitting? Then you will see, ‘Just Being’, just to be is simpler than sitting or standing. What is simpler than even just Being? That's where the intellect cannot function. Intellect is not needed. Simpler than just Being. Then at the outermost level of intellect, you can have an answer like ‘nothing’. Like you may say… because you have been in Satsang and you may know the answer, so you may say ‘Aware, being aware is simpler than just being; Awareness’. Then I say what is simpler than even this Awareness. You may say, ‘nothing’. But I will still say, what is simpler than even that? Because that is when you leave this intellect behind and you recognise the simplicity of your Self and you realise that suffering is nothing but an intellectual exercise. So the words of Satsang are meant to take you beyond the outermost limit of your intellect and in the limits of your intellect, you have only something and nothing or small and big or something and everything - just these boundaries. But the ‘who’ question, when used properly, the inquiry when done properly will bring you to this simple Self-knowledge. Which is the heart of spirituality, which is the heart of your Reality. Then all these dancing images, all this play of light and sound, will just seem like simple expression of your Being-ness. It will not seem like something is happening to you or you have to manage something or control something here. You will see the simple effortlessness of this existence. Which is beyond any idea of human volition or control or agency. It is as simple as that.
