Unawareness Is Not A Possible Idea

Ananta reveals that unawareness is impossible because awareness is the fundamental nature—every thought, every notion of not-knowing, arises within and depends upon awareness itself.

I woke up a few minutes ago before coming to Satsang but in the sleep state I was there - not as a thing, not as an object; but I’m not here as a thing or an object even now. So, when this world of objects, things arose it came with this idea of time, this idea of space, but I see that I cannot be in it. If something is in something (although the whole notion is a fallacy) but must be this world is in me, not the other way around. It is only because we have taken ourselves to be this body for so long that it can seem like it is the other way around. If I was not there then how would I know that I am not there. So, unawareness is not a possible idea, unless we are confusing Awareness to be some attention or something like that. So like she said that you might have an experience of the loss of this universe but you are still there. And what is our universe anyways, just a set of perceptions. [Silence] But these perceptions when mixed with belief into one specific set of perceptions called ‘thoughts’, make it seem like ‘I am object here, I have states, that something happens to me or not’, but in reality I am untouched. And this is not something that only some special one’s experience, this is everyone one’s experience. So the experience is the same, it is only the interpretation, what we take it to be, which is different. And as long as we are not wanting to make everything about ‘me’, as long as we are not wanting to make anything about ‘me’, this Truth is very apparent. The Truth of yourself is very apparent beyond all states. The instant you make it about the ‘non-existent me’, the Truth seems to get conceptualized, distorted, the Truth seems to become very mind-y. [Silence] So the effort is not to find this Truth, the only seeming effort is to not make this about you. And when I’m say you, I mean you individually. You cannot struggle unless you try to make it about yourself individually. Then the stateless One is very clear.

Key Teachings

  • Unawareness cannot actually exist as a real state—it is only a mistaken concept
  • Awareness is always present and knowing; even the idea of being unaware arises within awareness
  • What we call 'unawareness' is simply forgotten or overlooked awareness, not a separate phenomenon
