Truth Is Unconditioned

2020-08-21|1:36:50-1:39:05|Watch on YouTube

Truth requires no conditions - we are never confused about our existence (I Am), only about thoughts, and the clear seeing is identical to the Self.

Ananta

So, what is the condition that must be fulfilled by Truth? That is what we trying to [look at]. What is the condition that must be fulfilled by Truth? The question is clear to everyone?

Seeker

There seems to be a contradiction in that. It seems like there must be some quality to it. But I feel like saying it should never pass. That it is always here.

Ananta

Yeah. That is what I am saying ‘what is the condition that must be fulfilled and that condition has to be dropped actually?’ It just has to be given up. Because the truth is unconditioned. Is that what both of us are saying or you are saying something [different]?

Seeker

I am confused.

Ananta

[Smiles] Use that confusion. In the sense do not ever feel like ‘Oh, that confusion has come therefore…’ What is confusion? It is just the arising of two different notions which seem to be in opposition to each other. Good, good no? So, you can’t hang on to one. It is more open actually. Don’t resist your confusion. You can’t grasp this side or this side. That is good. Confusion and openness are very close, cousins, first cousins. [Laughter] It is conclusion and openness which are very far. You may be confused about everything but you have to be there to be confused. Unless your existence is there, there is no possibility of even being confused. So, you are not confused about your existence - you are only confused about what is in your head. Like when you say ‘I am confused’ you were quite sure. You were sure that ‘you are’. So, this surety of your existence comes from where? Is it conceptual? We can be confused about - What we are; Where we are; When we are? But we are not confused that ‘we are’. What, where, when is the changing - it comes and goes. And therefore the interpretation, the judgment of it can seem contradictory or unsatisfactory or confusing, but that you are… Now this being-ness, this existence, what condition does it have to fulfill for it to be true?

Seeker

The response that came was the seeing is not clear yet. But soon aeer that, negation to that came that it is not true.

Ananta

So, there is no but? (Is your mouth forming a b…) [for but… indicating the mind] [Laugher]

Ananta

There is no but to what? Yeah, there is no but… to what? What is the insight? What is the insight like - I am the Self or I am awareness or what is that insight to which there is no but?

Seeker

The seeing is always clear.

Ananta

The seeing is always clear.

Seeker

How can it…? It is the ‘mind’ that wants to adulterate it (in a way).

Ananta

Yes, yes and what is the difference the Seeing and the Self?

Seeker

Same.

Ananta

It’s the same. So simple no?

Key Teachings

  • We are never confused about our existence (I Am), only about mental concepts and interpretations
  • The seeing is always clear; it is only the mind that adulterates - the seeing and the Self are the same
