This Direct Way of Truth Is Simplest but Also Most Difficult
The direct path is simplest in being but most difficult because it demands we abandon all concepts and rest purely in aware being.
Don´t Fool Yourself Integrity is what - Just don’t fool yourself, don’t pose as if all ‘Shanti, Shanti, Shanti’ but actually inwardly ‘Ahh…’ [Expression of suffering on the face] just like that. So, if something is poking you, don’t just put on a face for yourself, it does not matter what to do with the world so much, look for yourself. Then do not try to Advaita it away or something. Just look, what are you believing yourself to be? Like in these… small, small things can become a big contradictions in a way for ourselves. You can feel like… I can continue to feel like… ‘I know this or I am right about this, but I can still be free.’ We try to hide some few, small, small things - something that we collected from or we really valued, we want to hide those and say ‘I will walk through this gate of freedom and the scanner will not detect this small, small things.’ [Sangha Smiles] But these tiny ideas which we feel like this ‘This I still want to carry… but I am right about this, no matter what he says’. We might not say it in that way. ‘Let me see I can sneak in this through’. It is bound to expose itself, it’s bound to. And when the exposing is happening you say ‘No, no, no, nothing…I have…’ Like you might have seen some on TV we have these programs on…When the people are caught in customs. It is just like that ‘No, I have nothing.’ But [the customs official saying] it’s right here. ‘No….’ [Chuckles] like that. This kind of denial that we do (just) if something is poking you then do not try to avoid it or push it away or something like that. Look, if you are able to let go, if letting go is happening then nothing is… no suffering, nothing is poking, it’s just like [makes action of letting go] So the fist is either close or open, so do not even get into very fancy new Advaita ideas of ‘I am being very…I am not resisting my suffering.’ Which means that my fist is open and closed? Which means that because suffering is resistance. Of course, we don’t want to have these ideas which we spoke about that earlier which is that ‘Oh, I am unworthy because I am still suffering’ all of that. That is not what I am saying. Because sometimes we try to Advaita it away by saying ‘I am so open, I am completely open to my sufferings.’ But look at suffering. What do you mean by suffering? Means closed, suffering means closed. You are still taking a concept to be true, a notion to be real. Look at that and still trying to say ‘What is your position with regards to suffering.’ What are you suffering from or who is the one who is suffering? Investigate that. And we only ever suffer from an un-inquired thought. So, it is not possible to suffer from a thought which is inquired into because you will see that no thought has a valid representation of Truth, even phenomenally.
Key Teachings
- The direct way to truth is paradoxically the simplest yet most difficult because it requires dropping all concepts, beliefs, and mental constructs to rest in pure awareness
- True liberation comes from being rather than understanding—the mind cannot grasp the truth, only be silent and present
- The difficulty lies not in complexity but in the courage to let go of everything we think we know and simply be
