The Notion of ‘Me’ Itself Will Dissolve
The false sense of self dissolves effortlessly when we rest as awareness, recognizing that we are already what we seek - no struggle needed, only grace.
Oeen, I say that ‘the recognition of the Self’ part is the simplest. What seems to be difficult is the ‘open and empty’. To remain open and empty, which is like the prerequisite for Self- discovery. Because otherwise all the pointers themselves are misinterpreted, they are confusing, they are filled with a lot of effort. You are trying to find out, ‘Who is aware of awareness’. If you are not open and empty, and you're trying to figure out ‘Who is aware of awareness’, then it will become a purely mental exercise and you will make yourself mental in the process. So, to get out of this hypnosis of the mind… because if you include the inquiry within the hypnosis, then it will continue to be the delusion. You need to (at least momentarily) be able to step out of this mind hypnosis and then look. Otherwise you will be just, “I am looking, I'm really looking”. But we are just thinking that we are looking, you are not looking. It’s just the thought that I'm looking. So when you are empty of this hypnosis, which is right now (Clicks fingers) and it can only happen right now! Right now… you are empty of the hypnosis. The Truth is most clear. It is the simplest. Most obvious (I have been calling it). But the minute we have to think about it, we are back in the mental hypnosis, pretending as if we are coming to some resolution of something but actually just confusing ourself. Just almost like a drunk state, mind-drunk, so kick out of this drugged state of thought. I got a beautiful report just aeer the broadcast yesterday. He said that, it is as if I'm seeing you for the first time. Now I'm paraphrasing a bit, but he thought (earlier) that it felt like there's a blob over there which is speaking all these words. Because we are consuming both the words and our thoughts at the same time, so obviously the perception of this world can also seem like it becomes blurry. But most of you saw that as you are fresh, you are not getting caught up in this mind story. You are able to perceive even this apparent world a lot more clearly than before. So this is one of the by-products, it's not about that. But you will notice that the vibrancy, the brightness of this perception will also seem more alive, seem to go up. Because when our attention is in that diffused sort of state, we are trying to perceive this world, we are trying to look at what our thoughts are saying, we are trying to manage our emotions, all these layers of existence, when we are distracted by our thought hypnosis or we are in that that drugged state, then all of it also seems to get a bit more tepid, a lot more normal. We miss all the lights and sound, miss all the beauty that this world actually is. It is just like you put on this beautiful game you don't even play it, because you are so caught up in how to play it, what to do. So really snapping out of this mind hypnosis is the only step per say. The rest of it, the recognition, to see what is apparent… when we use the word apparent then it is already apparent. When you are open and empty, you're not confused about who you are. You need a thought to be confused. The Truth of your own existence and that which is even prior to existence is completely apparent to you, it is completely Known to you. If you have tried to capture this original Knowingness which is just the simplest, into some mental confabulation (or something) then it seems very confusing. Now there is only one thing that gets in the way or seems to get in the way and that one idea is, ‘What about me?’ Now this ‘What about me’ idea could be an idea of progress, of getting it, of becoming special, of finding something, in all these guises comes this simple idea - ‘What about me’. That's what this whole egoic notion is made up of – ‘What about me? What's in it for me? What about me?’ If you have no concern about this non-existent ‘me’ then your mind’s resistance can never be that strong. If our interest is in 'What about me’ then the interest in the Truth will not really be that strong. But if you are interested in Truth for Truth’s sake, then you'll not be so concerned about ‘What's in it for me’ or ‘What about me’. Truth for Truth sake also means it's not Truth for my sake. It’s just Truth for Trut’s sake. Not even the notion that the Truth will Free me. What are we in this for? We want the Truth so that the Truth can free me. When you come to true Satsang, we see that Truth does not have a function like that. There is no function of the Truth. Truth is just the Truth. Independent of all functions. Of course with the recognition of what is True, the notion of ‘me’ itself will dissolve unless you try to contain it within you, what you think you are. The notion of me itself dissolves.
Key Teachings
- The sense of 'me' or ego dissolves naturally when one simply remains as awareness without trying to get rid of it
- What we are seeking is already what we are - the 'I am' consciousness is the doorway to recognizing our true nature
- There is no separate 'me' to destroy - only a misidentification that fades through grace and stillness
