Tell Me the Way to Freedom
The question 'Tell me the way to freedom' itself implies a seeker who believes they are separate from freedom, when in truth, freedom is the recognition of one's essential nature that has never been bound.
This is what Satsang is. Tell me the way to Freedom? But you are free. But I don’t feel I am free. But has nothing to do with it. I don’t think I am free. I have nothing to do with it. Can we just check? Is there any other way to check? And some who will check and see ‘Oh, the idea of bondage was a myth’. They say ‘thank you, thank you so much’. The Ones who don’t check and feel like they will go with what they feel and what they think they will say ‘You haven’t really helped me. I asked you for Freedom you didn’t give it to me.’ So this is what is happening, as simple as that. Now, how to let go of this fallacy is to remain open and empty. And every day I am telling new things about the same thing, about how to remain open and empty. One way to remain open and empty, is to see that; when Being is not, when I am not, there is no trouble. When I am ‘is’ then all is being handled it effortlessly. What is there for ‘you’ to do? That non… that 'you' doesn’t even exist. So this idea of forward movement, getting towards the destination is only because we have not enquired the starting point. You have not enquired into the starting point enough that we want to move towards the destination. You have never left the destination. Now all of this can sound very strange if you are convinced about the destination. If you are convinced you are not in Bangalore then all the advice that can come to you is to check, check, look, look. And we will get to in a moment that what that look means here. But this part should be clear that ‘you are not going to attain something new’. If what is, is not enough then there is no hope for anything. Forget about it. So it is an exploration to what already is and not the attainment of some new anything - state, thought, experience.
Key Teachings
- Freedom is asked for by the seeker but the question itself implies separation from what is already true
- The way to freedom is not a path to be walked but a recognition of what already is
- True freedom lies in direct self-inquiry rather than in seeking methods or techniques
