Rid ‘Me’ Of ‘Me’

Ananta guides seekers to recognize and release the constructed 'me' through pure awareness, revealing the liberated true Self underneath.

I feel the thing with spirituality is that we all know too much about it. Like if you go to a doctor, if you had a throat infection or something. You go to a doctor, he gives you some medicine, you take it. You are not telling him ‘Okay, give me this, give me that. This is what I want. This is what I need. This is how I must be helped’. So, the thing is that all of us are pretty much doctors at spirituality. [Laughs] So, we can all have certain ideas about how we should be helped. Now, then what to do? [Smiles] I feel like everyone must do very good due diligence on selecting the doctor. Select the doctor with great care, select with all the parameters, whatever due diligence you want to do. But, once you have done all the due diligence [and] you come to the doctor, then let the doctor take care. Because otherwise we just keep swimming in the same ‘me’ and making the prayer ‘Rid me of me’. Then ‘Rid me of me’ should be the final statement. You make that statement, then get out of the way. [Smiles] But if it [the prayer that is made] is ‘Ridding me of me but I will also tell you how you will do it or how you will do it better according to me; then it is not ‘Rid me of me’. So, what plays a part there, everything that we think we know. So, if we are going to make this prayer, which is [a] very, very, beautiful prayer. Maybe the final prayer is ‘Lord, Guruji [Sri Mooji ji] rid me of me’ then as Papaji [Sri Poonja ji] would say ‘Then keep quite’. [Smile] Then keep quite. Then ‘Rid me of me’ [making the prayer] – Okay [and then the mind continues to comment] then first step to ‘rid me of me’ is this… now you treat me like this… you tell me like this. [Laughs] But it is important to select a competent doctor (that much I will admit). So do that. Test all of that… see that you feel at home with this doctor or not. And what is this for - It is not, (by the way) it is not meant to inspire any guilt or un-worthiness like that. These are just the simple tricks of the mind, simple tricks of the mind which will keep getting in the way. So just to get you to notice them. Often, I say that ‘This self-recognition is ninety nine percent recognition of the mind.’ Maybe more, maybe ninety-nine point nine nine. Center of it is to recognize that ‘It is just the mind’ and if that is clear, then [Clicking of figures] done. So, the journey, the trouble, the struggle, the spiritual search is all about this. But the point where you recognize ‘This is the mind’ is the end. It is the end of spiritual journey. Till we keep taking the mind to be the reality and all the mind’s versions of ‘What should happen to me and what is right for me, what is wrong for me’ to be a reality… till then it is… [Smiles] this is what the whole journey consists of. [I] Keep pointing out that ‘This is not you. Is this really you?’ So ‘Rid me of me’ can be the final statement. There usually is nothing else to say after that.
