Nothing Has To Happen
Freedom emerges when we release the compulsion that anything must happen, allowing existence to simply be as it is.
This is the funny thing. When we want to utilize the world as reinforcing the individual ‘me’ then we can interpret (it) everything personal. But when we want to look at it as pointers to the Self then you can see everything seems to be pointing to the Self, even a TV show! [Smile] So that’s why Guruji [Sri Mooji] says ‘Nothing in itself, nothing in the world has inherent meaning. It is only our perspective that makes it seem that way.’ Now, with what I am pointing (which is that); nothing has to be done, this [referring to the Self] is completely apparent to you. No perception has to change and no concept has to change, nothing has to happen and even if all of this changes [there is] no trouble. Then the only thing that seems to get in the way is this idea about - ‘But what about me or what’s in this for me? What did I get?’ And this ‘What’s in it for me?’ I have oeen labeled it as the maha-mantra of the Ego. [Silence] And it seems to be so pervasive in the human condition that even Masters have to sometimes say ‘No, no, you just stay with me, you will get what you want. You will get’ [Smile] You are like ‘okay, he gave me some guarantee then there is something in this for me.’ [Smile] It’s that pervasive that even to meet our Self we need a guarantee for the ‘me’. ‘Yes, yes, you will.’ [referring to the ‘me’] And maybe it is from this perspective the great Masters (sometimes) said ‘I give them what they want, so that one day they may want what I want to give them.’
Key Teachings
- The belief that something has to happen is a mental illusion we can release
- True peace arises when we stop forcing outcomes and allow life to unfold naturally
- What we call "having to" is often the ego's attempt to control reality
