How Can Attribute-less Be Recognized? [Reading from chat] Father, if the changeless cannot be perceived, how can it be recognised or confirmed as Truth or Self? This is the thing. Who is aware of the perception of this hand? [Raises hand] (I should stop doing this. We will come back to the question. I have some family friends who visited yesterday. They said, ‘We have not been in touch for so many years, but every time I see a photo of you on Facebook or something, you are always like this. [Raises hand with a gesture of blessing.] [Laughter] (This kind of thing.) Okay who is aware of perception of this nose? [Points to nose] [Laughter] (Okay, but I want to treat this question with some seriousness because this question (is) very important.) If the changeless cannot be perceived, how can it be recognised or confirmed as Truth or the Self? So, that which is aware of the perception of this face, it is undeniable (unless you give it too much to your intellect) that it is you. And yet this is not perceived knowledge, neither is it learnt knowledge. This is Self-knowledge. And these words might still sound a bit complex, but they are actually very, very simple. You are aware of all things. But that which is Aware, you cannot see. But you always know it is you, but you do not know, like this. [Taps head] So, that’s why my Father [Sri Mooji] says, ‘It is the only non-phenomenal experience that you can ever have’ — your experience of your Self. It is undeniable that it is here, that you are here, and yet it is not experienced in the same — experience means some colour, some shape, some size, some change, some distortion, some duration — all these attributes are not there. So, [reads from chat] ‘If the changeless cannot be perceived, how can it be recognised or confirmed as the Truth or the Self?’ That is why this Self is Nirguna. [without attributes]. This saguna — this one with attributes, this appearance — is dependent on the substratum of the Nirguna. It has to underlie this appearance. You are aware of It. Without this Awareness, what are you aware of? What perception is remaining? Can you confirm the existence of something without Awareness? [Reading from chat] Father, when the Is-ness is also forgotten during meditation (okay, this was the question). Is-ness is not subject to remembering or forgetting. Maybe, we have conceptualised, made a concept out of this Is-ness, and we can forget about that. If you are practicing the invitation, then it’s very good. Just stay with the invitation, don’t make a concept out of this Is-ness because this Is-ness has no in or out, you cannot forget or remember it, you cannot move in and out of this Is-ness. This Is-ness is all there is and beyond. Don’t make it into some dark empty space or some visualisation of Awareness or Is-ness. There is nothing beyond Is-ness. All the states come and go within it, but it is not lost. What Is, Is. ‘Reality is as it is’, as Bhagwan [Sri Ramana Maharshi] said. It always Is as It Is.
