Empty of the Decision 'to Be' or 'Not to Be

True presence is empty of the mind's decision to exist or not exist—rest in the open awareness before choosing.

The One who is saying ‘I just want to be’ is not just being. [Smiles] The decision to ‘just be’ is already too much then. I wonder if this is clear. Already a position has been taken, which is a limitation on Being, that this, which negates something else is my position. But empty of that, empty of the decision to be or not be, you are just being. And then many such things we come across in spirituality where we are trying to ‘just be’ or many are trying to ‘just be in the now’ or something like that, which I have never seen it work for anyone. Everyone knows ‘In the now, no trouble.’ For how many years you have known? Many years… ten, twenty years some of us have known. Then how is it going? If you have known this for ten- twenty years [Smiles] have you succeeded? Because already you are feeding yourself the poison of your limitation and then trying to give yourself the antidote. It does not work. You take on the position ‘I must be in the now’ already you have put on the mask of your limitation and then trying to find God. God putting on the mask of limitation trying to find God does not work. So, something is more immediate [Clicking of fingers]… and this is the best news. Before you can decide to do or not do or take on a position or not, you are free. And all that Bhagwan [Sri Ramana Maharishi] said that is to need is to not to go with any false idea about yourself now. And if you go with a false idea about yourself, all that is needed is to not go with any false idea ‘now’. That is all.

Key Teachings

  • The mind creates the decision to be or not to be, but true awareness is empty of this choice
  • The 'I Am' is already complete and doesn't require any decision about existence
  • Freedom lies in resting in the empty space before the mind decides to be or not be
