Don’t Understand Anything

True knowing transcends intellectual comprehension and emerges through direct experience when the mind surrenders its need to understand.

So, how many of you are convinced that you are not free and you need freedom? Come on let me see your hands. You’re convinced you are not free and you need freedom. So, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that the one who wants freedom is not going to get it. The one who wants freedom is not going to get it. The good news is that the one that is free is always free. And the even better news is that you are always only that one. So, the problem is not of attainment but it is only (if there is a problem at all) it is only that of misidentifying. So, if you look within (and provisionally I use the term ‘within’) can you find that aspect of yourself which is untouched by any of this, any movement does not touch it. Can we find? How many feel like you can find? It's sounding like a classroom, I know. Okay, most of you, no? How many couldn’t? So, this one - the moving aspect, is that more intimate to you or that which witnesses all of this but is itself unchanging? What is more intimate? Are the movements on the surface or is the eternal one on the surface? The movements are on the surface. What’s at the core? What’s at the center? Are you there or not? Now, I don’t want you to stay there [Chuckles] cause I know that is what your mind will tell you, ‘I just have to stay here’. I don’t want you to stay there. I want you to leave there and show me. How will you leave? Now, I will tell you what gives you the illusion of leaving- that means that when your attention goes to some movement, some perception, then you may have an idea that you have left that but actually have you? That is what you need to check. Let your attention go anywhere. Look around the room if you want. Let it go anywhere it wants. Tell me if you have left. Only attention seems to move from perception to perception but that which is at the center and attention seems to report back into, that remains unchanging, isn’t it? Now, don’t identify with anything that your attention goes to. Attention can go where ever it wants, you don’t make a ‘me’ out of it. Don’t identify is what? Don’t make a ‘me’ out of it. That is freedom, quick and easy. Where all will attention go? It will go to that which we call the body, it’ll go to emotion, it’ll go to thought, it’ll go to the world. If you can, don’t make any labels out of wherever it may go. Then it will become even easier to not identify because to identify you need some label, the label ‘me’, the label ‘body', the label ‘mind’, the label ‘world’. So, don’t identify, don’t label. Simple? Don't understand anything. Don't make meaning out of anything or meaningless-ness out of anything.
