Tonight is Diwali, and Pyari's beauty is immense. The Beloved Pair plays chaupar with the companions. Vipula and the women approach with trays in their lotus hands; instruments sound and Ayodhya's coloured lanes sing. Laughing and teasing, the players make their several moves, every gesture full of love. Before Yugalapriya's nectar-filled eyes, the adolescent Lady smiles gently and wins, a bodiless bee dyed in her Beloved's colour.
