Rāma, Hara, Hanumān, Lakṣmaṇa, and Bharata have known your nature, virtues, character, glory, and power. In their beautiful hearts the wish-fulfilling tree of love for Rāma shines, flowering and fruiting with succulent happiness. (1) Those whom you yourself accepted—as master, friend by nature, brother, or lord—remain watchful in love and afraid. When master and servant uphold their way, love’s proper measure, good policy, and discipline, their single pledge never wavers. (2) Śuka and the Sanaka sages, Prahlāda, Nārada, and others say that great devotion to Rāma belongs to one absorbed in dispassion. There is no devotion without knowing, and the power to know is in your hands; understanding this, the wise fall at your feet, Lord. (3) The six doctrines disagree; even the Purāṇas have no single view, and the Veda forever says “not this, not this, not this.” What then can be said of others? One thing alone is wholly good: by taking Rāma’s Name, even those like Tulsi cross over. (4)
