Lord, every fault is mine alone. You are an ocean of gracious character, compassionate, Lord of the lordless, and nourisher of the distressed. (1) My dress and speech display dispassion, but my mind is a treasury of sins and faults. It is hollow toward love and trust in Rama, yet solid in the practice of deceit. (2) I delight only in the colors of bad company and resent saintly company—like a hare serving a jackal while desiring a lion’s fame. (3) Shambhu’s teaching is that I should continually proclaim Rama’s name with the tongue. In Kali, the Name taken even in hypocrisy is Agastya, drying up the ocean of care. (4) It is the root of joy and auspiciousness, supremely favorable, with no equal to its favor. Hearing the power of Rama’s name, even Tulsi finds complete contentment. (5)
