कृपासिंधु! जन दीन दुवारे दादि न पावत काहे। जब जहँ तुम्हहिं पुकारत आरत, तहँ तिन्हके दुख दाहे॥ १॥ गज, प्रहलाद, पांडुसुत, कपि सबको रिपु-संकट मेट्यो। प्रनत, बंधु-भय-बिकल, बिभीषन, उठि सो भरत ज्यों भेट्यो॥ २॥ मैं तुम्हरो लेइ नाम ग्राम इक उर आपने बसावौं। भजन, बिबेक, बिराग, लोग भले, मैं क्रम-क्रम करि ल्यावौं॥ ३॥ सुनि रिस भरे कुटिल कामादिक, करहिं जोर बरिआई। तिन्हहिं उजारि नारि-अरि-धन पुर राखहिं राम गुसाई॥ ४॥ साम-सेवा-छल-दान-दंड हौं, रचि उपाय पचि हारयो। बिनु कारनको कलह बड़ो दुख, प्रभुसों प्रगटि पुकारयो॥ ५॥ सुर स्वारथी, अनीस, अलायक, निठुर, दया चित नाहीं। जाउँ कहाँ, को बिपति-निवारक, भवतारक जग माहीं॥ ६॥ तुलसी जदपि पोच, तउ तुम्हरो, और न काहू केरो। दीजै भगति-बाँह बारक, ज्यों सुबस बसै अब खेरो॥ ७॥
Ocean of compassion, why does your poor servant at your door find no redress? Whenever and wherever the distressed called you, you burned away their suffering. (1) You removed the enemy-made afflictions of the elephant, Prahlada, the sons of Pandu, Sugriva, and all the rest. When the surrendered Vibhishana came distraught by fear of his brother, you rose and embraced him like Bharata. (2) Taking your name, I would establish a village in my heart; one by one I bring into it the good people—worship, discernment, and dispassion. (3) Hearing this, the crooked powers beginning with lust fill with rage and forcefully assert themselves. They drive those good people out and, O Lord Rama, settle woman, enemy, and wealth in the town. (4) Conciliation, service, guile, gifts, punishment—I have devised these means, exhausted myself, and been defeated. I have now openly cried to the Lord about the great suffering of this causeless conflict. (5) The gods are self-interested, powerless, unfit, and hard-hearted; there is no compassion in their minds. Where shall I go? Who in the world removes calamity and carries one across becoming? (6) Though Tulsi is base, he is still yours and belongs to no other. Give this child the arm of devotion so that the settlement may now become well and happily inhabited. (7)
