Those unfortunate men live in the world as forms of hell, turned away from the feet of the One who breaks worldly becoming. Day and night they delight in sin; their minds are impure, their wicked understanding stained, and they have abandoned the Vedic path. (1) They have neither saintly company nor worship of Hari, and their ears feel no love for the story of Rama. They sleep deeply in the night of attachment to sons, wealth, wife, and house; their understanding never awakens. (2) Tulsidas says: abandoning the nectar of Hari’s name, the fools obstinately beg for and drink the poison of sense objects. Like pigs, dogs, and jackals, such people take birth in the world only to bring pain upon their mothers. (3)
