Fresh English translation
[19] Considering the many bonds of society and scripture tasteless, I shall forget them and repeat the life-giving Name, offering possessions, time, mind, and the rest. [20] When will I remain like a fish wholly absorbed in the ever-new ocean of love that is the Name—alas, losing the heart, yet firm in a joy-filled vow? [21] When the tongue tastes the great sweetness of the Name, an ocean of nectar, I shall preserve it while treating desires for liberation and enjoyment as ash and straw. [22] When will I repeatedly instruct my own relishing tongue: repeat and delight in your Name, entered together with its virtues and Abode? [23] When will I eagerly hear the Name and virtues of the Treasury of Compassion at every moment, casting off the heart's burning? [24] When the supremely dear Name is absent even for a fraction of a moment, when will the heart cry out a thousand times while pondering its host of virtues? [25] When will I approach the dwelling of colour and melody—the true guru's holy company—and hear the banner of love sounded through my own Name and its virtues? [26] When will repetition of the Name course like the finest river-current, so that even masses of affliction cannot make the least obstruction heard? [27] Like the rain-thirsty cātaka I shall vow to repeat the sweet Name with my tongue, enduring threefold suffering because I desire the lovely drop from that treasury of rasa. [28] Without the Name of Sītā's Lord, every kind of talk is dust. When will my mind understand this and regard such talk as opposed to supreme joy? [29] When will the blessed, happy day come when my tongue repeats without break and, boldly made single in flavour, utters the clear syllables in japa?
