English Translation

According to the devotion in one's chitta, He grants His vision. He knows how to fulfill the innermost longing and bring contentment. He reveals Himself and spreads the shade of His grace. Says Tuka, He has given this gift: the mind has become absorbed in Hari's Name.

In Plain Words

As the devotion in a heart is, so He grants His vision. He knows how to fulfill the inmost longing and to bring it peace. He makes Himself plain and spreads the shade of His grace over it. Tuka says: He has given the gift; the mind, beyond mind, rests in Hari's Name.

What it means

Tukaram describes how God answers each devotee according to that devotee's own heart. The form of the vision matches the form of the love that seeks it, and God knows exactly how to meet the secret longing within and settle it into peace. He does not stay hidden but reveals Himself and lays the cool shade of His grace over the one who longs. The gift named at the end is the highest: the mind passes beyond its restless thinking state into the stillness of unmani and comes to rest in Hari's Name.
