English Translation

Once devotion has been accomplished, what harm can come to the jiva? Do not let fear stand in the way again. When the battle is joined, hold nothing back. Says Tuka, be a warrior who charges at the front line.

We ask forgiveness for any inaccuracies in rendering Tukaram ji’s original Marathi.

In Plain Words

Once devotion is done, what harm can reach the soul? Do not let fear stand in the way again. When the fight is joined, keep nothing back. Tuka says: be a warrior, charge straight at the front.

What it means

Tukaram assures the devotee that once true devotion is accomplished, nothing can finally injure the soul, so there is no ground left for fear. He uses a soldier's image: in the battle of the spiritual life, hold nothing in reserve and do not flinch. The whole abhanga presses one posture, courage, telling the devotee to charge at the front rank rather than hang back. Fear is named as the single obstacle that must not be allowed to return.

श्रद्धा
