Once in the Naimiṣa forest, the great sages headed by Śaunaka questioned Nārada about a supremely purifying account.

Tell us, mighty-armed one, that hymn which is supreme beyond the supreme—by merely hearing it, one is released from every sin.

I shall proclaim the hymn to Sītā, destroyer of every sin. She is Sītā, Jānakī, Maithilī, and the beloved of Rāghava.

She is Mother of the world, sustainer of the cosmos, the auspicious mother of Kuśa, Vaidehī, Mother of the Veda, Sāvitrī, and Sovereign of the worlds.

नमस्तस्यै जगन्मात्रे सीतायै च नमो नमः । इदं स्तवं महापुण्यं महापातकनाशनम् ॥ ६ ॥
Homage to her, Mother of the world; homage again and again to Sītā. This hymn is greatly meritorious and destroys the gravest transgressions.

यः पठेद् यातरुत्थाय वैष्णवस्तोत्रमुत्तमम् । सर्वपापविमुक्तात्मा विष्णुलोकं स गच्छति ॥ ७ ॥
Whoever recites this excellent Vaiṣṇava hymn upon rising [the preceding witness word is uncertain] goes to Viṣṇu's realm, the self released from every sin.

पुत्रार्थी लभते पुत्रं धनार्थी लभते धनम् । मोक्षार्थी मोक्षमाप्नोति कन्या विन्दति सत्पतिम् ॥ ८ ॥
One who desires a son obtains a son; one who desires wealth obtains wealth; one who desires liberation reaches liberation; and a maiden finds a virtuous husband.

तस्य गृहं सदा लक्ष्मीः सर्वदैव न मुञ्चति । दातव्यं भक्तियुक्ताय शिष्याय विदितात्मने ॥ ९ ॥
Lakṣmī never leaves that person's home. This is to be given to a devoted disciple who knows the Self.

दाम्भिकाय न दातव्यं भक्तिहीनाय सर्वदा । गोपनीयमिदं स्तोत्रं त्रिषु लोकेषु दुर्लभम् ॥ १० ॥
It must never be given to a hypocrite or to one devoid of devotion. This hymn is to be kept guarded; it is rare throughout the three worlds.
