Translator's note
This edition translates all readable textual material in the 46-leaf scan: the title and publication pages, the publisher's preface and notes, Swami Agradas's complete 80-verse root poem, Sri Rasrangamani's complete Makaranda Madhuri commentary, cited verses and scriptural passages, the two colophons, the commentator's concluding compositions, and the appendix. The first scan leaf contains only a damaged ornamental fragment and the scanner's watermark; it has no recoverable continuous passage to translate. Decorative marks and repeated scanner watermarks are omitted.
The root poem and commentary are written in Braj/Awadhi-inflected devotional Hindi, with Sanskrit citations. The English aims to be complete and close in meaning while remaining readable. Explanatory words supplied by the commentator are translated as explanation, not silently inserted into the root poem. Proper names and technical terms are retained where an English replacement would narrow their traditional meaning. Rasika means one capable of savoring divine love; bhavana is contemplative visualization or devotional imaginative realization; dhyana is meditation; shruti and smriti denote revealed scripture and remembered sacred tradition; samsara is the cycle of birth and death.
