पूर्वं विज्ञापितो देवो रन्तुं रमयितुं च सः । सीतया भीतया देव्यारन्तुं चक्रे मनो निशि ॥ ३६॥

pūrvaṃ vijñāpito devo rantuṃ ramayituṃ ca saḥ | sītayā bhītayā devyārantuṃ cakre mano niśi || 36||
English
The Lord had previously been requested by the shy goddess Sītā both to delight and to give delight; that night he therefore resolved to enter the play.
