Fresh English translation

[The meal-song continues:] ‘Holding grace in their hearts, the companions prepare betel and feed it to them.’ (4) ‘They perform the cool-season ārati: camphor has been placed on the excellent tray, and its waking flame brings delight. Fly-whisks and parasols cast a beautiful shade while all the companions sing, play, and make merry.’ (1) ‘They dance; new cloth ripples like fresh water. They devote body and mind and cry out victory.’ (2) ‘Delighting them with ever-new virtues and soaking them in joy, all hearts rejoice in the divine couple. Victory! Kṛpānivāsa says: every companion gives herself wholly to Sīyā and her prince.’ (3) ‘Come to the palace, languid-eyed beloveds. Turning their eyes, they rise with a smile; Love himself falls at the elegant one's feet. Overcome by the exhilaration of passion, they go while the companions support their arms. Flowers and sprays of fragrance rain down, and music sounds sweetly. Their beauty flashes as they climb to the upper chamber and reveal the bed. Kṛpānivāsa says: Śrī Jānakī and her beloved pass the night happily in repose.’
